Description

Gular is an Indo-Malesian species reported to occur in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South China, Africa  and  Australia. Within India, it is throughout the greater part in moist localities, along banks of streams and sides of ravines. It is found also on rocky slopes. It is often cultivated around villages for shade and its edible fruits. Gular is a large deciduous tree up to 18 m high, found throughout the year, up to the elevation of 1800 m. Bark greyish-green, surface soft and uneven, 0.5-1.8 cm thick, on rubbing white papery flakes come out from outer surface, inner surface light brown, fracture fibrous, taste, mucilaginous without any characteristic odour.

Phytoconstituents

Gular bark are contains Tannins, flavonoid, glycosides, alkaloids , phenolic acids , steroids , saponins , coumarins , triterpinoids – oleanolic acid rusolic acid , α- hydroxy ursolic acid , protocatechuic acid , maslinic acid. It is also contains leucoanthocyananins, leucocyanidin, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and lupeol.
