Description

Bharangi is a shrub distributed throughout the country. Mature root hard, woody, cylindrical, upto 5 cm thick, external surface light brown having elongated lenticels; bark, thin and easily separated from a broad wood which shows marked medullary rays and concentric growth rings in a transversely cut surface; fracture, short; taste, acrid.

Phytoconstituents

The  Plant contains Saponins. mannitol, b-sitosterol. Bark contains three triterpenoid constituents-oleonolic acid, queretaroic acid and serratagenic acid.

Gulma, Jvara, svasa, Kasa, Yaksma, Pinasa, Sotha, Hikka, Raktadosa.

Medicinal Uses

Bharangi is useful in treatment of asthma and chronic respiratory disorders, abdominal tumors, fever, gout, chronic respiratory conditions, tuberculosis, rhinitis, , improves digestion strength, inflammatory conditions, wound healing, useful in worm infestation and burning sensation
