Description
Vidarikand is Globally distributed in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Within India, it is distributed widely in the outer Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttara Khand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim. It is also present in the hills of Southern and Eastern India an altitude up to 1200 m. Vidari is a perennial woody climber with very large tuberous root, A fully grown plant measures 5-6 meters in length. Drug available in the form of longitudinally sliced pieces of variable size; outer surface reddish-brown, smooth, except for protuberances at some places; cut surface creamish-brown, starchy and somewhat porous; usually does not break, but pliable; taste, sweetish.
Phytoconstituents
It contains Carbohydrates - 64%, Proteins - 10.9% , Gluconic and Malic acids. It also contains pterocarpan- tuberosin, pterocarpanone-hydroxytuberosone, two pterocarpenes-anhydrotuberosin and 3-O-methylanhydrotuberosin, and a coumestan tuberostan. An isoflavone-puerarone and a coumestan –puerarostan, Tuberosin, puerarin and diadzein.

Medicinal Uses
Vidarikand is a rejuvenating drug of Ayurveda. It is mainly used as a reproductive tonic that promotes sexual desire, treats nocturnal emission in males and for females, promotes breast milk, treats menstrual disorders, menopause syndrome and uterus weakness. It is cooling, nourishing, and tonic. Vidari cures weakness. Due to cooling nature, it helps in burning sensation in the body, excessive heat and bleeding disorders. It improves sperms in males.
